Description

BAKTRIA, Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Euthydemos I, Circa 225-200 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29mm, 16.30 g 12). Diademed head of Euthydemos I to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΕΥΘΥΔΗΜΟΥ Weary Herakles seated to left, holding his club in his left hand, propping it on stylized rocks to left. Bopearachchi Série 5, A. Jameson 1796 (this coin). Mitchiner 85e. Cf. SNG ANS 132. A lovely, beautifully toned coin with a fine portrait. Some minor marks, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the Stoecklin Collection, bought from Münzen und Medaillen in Basel, and from the collections of R. Jameson, T. Prowe, Egger 28 November 1904, 1638 and that of E.H. Bunbury, Part 2, SWH 7 December 1896, 1638.
