Description

CILICIA, Tarsos. Tarkumuwa (Datames), Satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia, 384-361/0 BC. Stater (Silver, 22mm, 10.50 g 12), c. 370 BC. B’LTRZ Baaltars seated to right on throne, holding bunch of grapes and grain ear in his left hand and scepter in his right; in field to right, thymiaterion; under throne, bucranium. Rev. TRDMW Tarkumuwa seated to right, in full Persian garb, measuring arrow held in his left hand; on the lower right, bow; in field in upper right, winged solar disk. SNG France 286-288. SNG Levante 88. SNG von Aulock 5952. Nicely toned, and with an admirably sharp reverse. Obverse struck from a slightly worn and slightly rusty die, otherwise, extremely fine.
