Description

LUCANIA, Poseidonia. Circa 530-500 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20mm, 3.44 g 12). ΠΟΣ (retrograde) Poseidon, nude but for chlamys over his shoulders, striding right, brandishing a trident held in his right hand; border of dots. Rev. ΠΟΣ (retrograde) Poseidon, as on the obverse, but incuse; rayed border. HN III 1108. SNG ANS 619. Attractively toned with a dark patina as found. Some deposits and two test cuts on the edge, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
