Description

CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 490-480 BC. Nomos (Silver, 20mm, 8.10 g 12). ΤΑΡΑϞ Hippocamp to right; below, scallop; border of rays. Rev. ΤΑΡΑϞ Phalanthos, nude, riding dolphin to right, his left arm outstretched with the palm of his hand upwards, and holding an octopus in his right; cable border. Fischer-Bossert 52 c (this coin). HN III 827. Vlasto 123. Lightly toned. Some surface marks and roughness, otherwise, good very fine.
