CAROLINGIANS. Louis the Pious, as emperor, 814-840. Denier (Silver, 19mm, 1.45 g 1), "Mint Name” type, Mainz, 819-822. + I LVDOVVICVS IMP around cross pattée Rev. MO / GON / TIA / CVS Depeyrot 581. M&G 321. Very rare. A well-struck and clear example. Rough surfaces with traces of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.
