Description

Marcus Aurelius, as Caesar, 139-161. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 30mm, 23.34 g 11), Rome, 140-144. AVRELIVS CAESAR AVG PII F COS Bare head of the youthful Marcus Aurelius to right. Rev. PIETAS AVG / SC Knife, sprinkler, jug, lituus and simpulum. Banti 230 (this coin). BMC 1405 (Antoninus Pius). Cohen 454. RIC 1234a (Antoninus Pius). A lovely piece with a fine golden-brown patina and a good portrait. Good very fine - about extremely fine.

From the Stoecklin Collection, ex Bank Leu 20, 25 April 1978, 328 (there with the weight misprinted 25.34), and bought through Hess in Luzern.
