Description

Julius Caesar, first half of March, 44 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17mm, 4.14 g 1), with P. Sepullius Macer, Rome. CAESAR DICT PERPETVO Wreathed and veiled head of Julius Caesar to right. Rev. P SEPVLLIVS MACER Venus standing left, holding Victory in her right hand and long scepter in her left; at bottom of scepter, shield. Alföldi IX, 120 (this coin). Babelon (Julia) 50, (Sepullia) 5. Crawford 480/13. CRI 107d. Sydenham 1074. Nicely toned and attractive. Two very old scratches on the obverse and traces of an obverse brockage on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the Stoecklin Collection, bought from De Majo in Geneva, and from the collection of J. Martini, Ratto Lugano 24 February 1930, 1283.
