Description

KYRENAIKA, Kyrene. Circa 435-331 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27mm, 12.98 g 12), Asiatic standard. Κ-Υ / Ρ-Α /Ν-Α Silphium plant. Rev. Head of Zeus-Ammon to right, bearded, with ram’s horn over his ear and with curly hair. Cf. BMFA 1315. Cf. BMC Pl. VIII, 14. Cf. SNG Copenhagen 1184. Toned and impressive. Typical corroded surfaces, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Stoecklin Collection, bought from E. Bourgey in Paris in 1928.
