Description

SELEUKID KINGS, Antiochos III ‘the Great’, 223-187 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 27mm, 17.07 g 1), uncertain mint in northern Mesopotamia or eastern Syria, after 197. Diademed head of Antiochos III to right. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΝΤΙΟΧΟΥ Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on his bow; in exergue, ΔΙ. ESM 608ε (Ekbatana, this coin). SC 1112. SNG Spaer 773. Very attractively toned. Flan defect on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the Stoecklin Collection, bought from F. Sternberg in Zürich in 1966, ex Naville X, 15 June 1925, 986 (consigned by Spink) and from the collection of G. Gallet, Florange-Ciani 73, 24 May 1924, 28 .
