ELIS, Olympia. 78th-82nd Olympiad, 468-452 BC. Stater (Silver, 23mm, 11.50 g 5), struck at sometime during the later 450s. Eagle, with wings open above and below his body, flying to left, grasping a coiling snake in his beak. Rev. F Α Nike running to left, wearing a diadem and a chiton and with open wings, holding a wreath in her outstretched right hand and holding the hem of her chiton with her left; all within a circular incuse. Obverse die very probably unpublished, but for the reverse: see BCD Olympia 7 (same reverse die, but different obverse) and Seltlman reverse π. A very rare variant. Toned. Countermarked at least seven times on the obverse, otherwise, good fine.
