Description

SICILY, Syracuse. Agathokles, 317-289 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24mm, 17.19 g 10), c. 310-305. Head of Arethusa left, wearing wreath of grain ears, triple-pendant earring, and pearl necklace; around, three dolphins; below neck, NΙ. Rev. ΣVRΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ Charioteer, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left, driving galloping quadriga to left; above, triskeles running to left; in exergue, monogram of AI. Ierardi 28. SNG ANS 633. Attractively toned. Some old and minor scratches, otherwise, extremely fine.
