Description

SICILY, Messana. 412-408 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 23mm, 17.20 g 11). Nymph Messana, wearing chiton and holding reins with both hands, driving biga of mules walking to left; above, Nike flying right to crown Messana; in exergue, two opposed dolphins. Rev. ΜΕΣΣΑΝΙΟΝ (retrograde) Hare springing to left; below, diademed head of youthful Pan to left, with tiny horns over his forehead. Caltabiano 608.22 (this coin). Jameson 654 (this coin). SNG ANS 370-371. Nicely toned. About extremely fine.
