Description

CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 315-302 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21mm, 7.96 g 5). Nude rider on horse galloping to right, stabbing downwards with a spear held in his right hand and holding two other spears and shield with his left; below, ΣΑ. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos riding dolphin to left, holding kantharos in his right hand and trident in his left; below, dolphin to left; to left, monogram of ΑΡ. Fischer-Bossert 842. HN III 937. Very well struck and most attractively toned. Extremely fine.
