GAUL, Northwest. The Namnetes. Circa 100-50 BC. Stater (Gold, 22mm, 7.41 g 9). Celticized head of Apollo to right, with baton coming out of the back, and with four chains attached, each ending in a human head. Rev. Charioteer holding whip and driving human-headed horse to right; below, upper part of a man with his arms outstretched to grip the horse’s legs . D&T 2182. A curious piece. Partially flat-struck, otherwise, about very fine.
