Description

Guttmann, F. & Schwabacher, W. Die Tetradrachmen und Didrachmenprägung von Himera (472–409 v. Chr.). MBNG 47. München, 1929. 4to., pp. 44; 3 plates. In the original printed card covers, a trifle worn at the extremities. Inscribed on the upper cover by Willy Schwabacher to Jacob Hirsch. Almost fine and with a most attractive provenance. Rarely offered.
Daehn 3024. Kroh p. 20, “The popular classical silver coinage of Himera has been the focus of quite a few Italian numismatists but only one article attempts to be a corpus of issues… 20 varieties of tetradrachms (with 9 obverses and 3 reverse dies) are classified and the locations of all known specimens (at that time) are documented. Originals of this are very rare.”
