Description

[Petrowicz.] Sammlung Petrowicz. Arsaciden-Münzen. Wien; Alexander Ritter von Petrowicz, 1904. vi, 4to., pp. (4), 206, (2); 25 fine plates, a few illustrations in the text. Bound in contemporary black half morocco and cloth boards, the spine lettered direct in gilt, top edge red. Decorative endpapers. Lightly ruled in pencil throughout, with values noted in a neat contemporary hand alongside each entry up to Artaxias I. Totals noted on each page, with a full list of values calculated over three pages and bound in at the end, giving a total value of 40,202 Kroner. A few annotations in the text, with a couple of additional coin illustrations from other publications tipped in. Worn and rubbed at the extremities, the contents clean throughout. An attractive copy of the original edition of this catalogue of the author’s own collection. Intriguing with the additional notes and especially so with no indication of previous ownership. Important and rare thus.
One of only 130 copies printed, as noted by Gustav Fock in the 1934 catalogue of the Pick-Gotha library (item 1106). Clain-Stefanelli 3029*. Daehn 6149. Grierson p. 90. Kroh p. 43, “Elusive, but very worth having… Originals are quite rare.”
