The Gupta Empire
Samudragupta, circa 344 – 378 AD. Dinar, Ashvamedha type, circa 344-378, AV 7.72 g. Horse standing l. before a sacrificial post (yupa), decorated with a banner. Below on footstool, si. Rev. The queen Mahisi standing l. on lotus-form mat, holding chowrie and a sacrificial spear decorated with fillets. BMC Gupta 56-62 and pl. V, 9-14. cf. Altekar pl. III, 6. Bayana 156.
