Description

Syracuse. Tetradrachm in the style of Eukleidas, circa 405-400, AR 17.28 g. Fast quadriga driven l. by charioteer, holding kentron in r. hand and reins in both; above, Nike flying r., crowning him; in exergue, dolphin r. Rev. Head of Arethusa l., wearing head-band, double-loop earring and plain necklace with frontal pendant; and four dolphins around. SNG Lloyd 1405. SNG Fitzwilliam 1253. Tudeer 96. Old cabinet tone. Obverse struck from a worn die, otherwise extremely fine
