Description

Attica, Athens. Drachm circa 465-460, AR 4.26 g. Head of Athena r., wearing crested Athenian helmet and disc earring; bowl ornamented with spiral and three olive leaves. Rev. AΘE Owl, with closed wings, standing r. with head facing; in upper l. field, olive twig with two leaves and berry; all within partially incuse square. Seltman p-l. XX, 66. Svoronos pl. 8, 39. Starr, group IIC.
Rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. Of fine style
and with a light iridescent tone. Extremely fine

Privately purchased from M&M in 1992 and from the Harald Salvesen collection.
