Metapontum. Nomos circa 290-280, AR 7.85 g. Bearded head of Leucippus r., wearing crested Corinthian helmet with bowl decorated with wreath; behind neck-guard, ΔΙ. Rev. META Ear of barley with stalk and leaf above which, triskeles; in lower r. field, ΦΙ. SNG ANS 515 (this obverse die). SNG Lloyd 383 (these dies). Johnston D 4.4 (this coin illustrated). Historia Numorum Italy 1622.
Of lovely style and with a superb old cabinet tone. Extremely fine
