Epirus, Ambracia. Stater circa 480-456, AR 8.37 g. Pegasus flying r.; below, Λ. Rev. Head of Athena l., wearing Corinthian helmet; all within partially incuse square. SNG Lockett 2226 (these dies). Calciati 3. Ravel, Colts, 5c (this coin). A portrait of great elegance, work of a skilled master engraver struck on a broad flan. Light iridescent tone, two unobtrusive die breaks on reverse and weakly struck on obverse, test-cuts on edge and minor marks on obverse field, otherwise about extremely fine / extremely fine Ex Sambon Paris, 14 March 1923, 458; Ciani-Vinchon 6 February 1956, 409 and New York IV, 2002, 150 sales.
