Syracuse. Didrachm circa 405, AV 0.67 g. ΣVPA retrograde. Head of Athena l., wearing Attic crested helmet. Rev. Aegis with gorgoneion. Jameson 817 (this coin). Boston 440. SNG Lloyd 1418. SNG ANS 316. In exceptional condition for the issue, possibly the finest specimen known. Virtually as struck and almost Fdc Ex CNG-NAC 40, 1996, 879; Triton III, 1999, 283; Tkalec 19 February 2001, 41 and NGSA 6, 2010, 28 sales. From the Jameson and sir Arthur Evans collections.
