Catana. Tetradrachm circa 405, AR 17.27 g. KATAN – A – IΩΝ Laureate head of Apollo r. Rev. Fast quadriga driven l. by charioteer holding kentron and reins; above, Nike flying r. to crown him. In exergue, ΚΑΤΑΝΑΙΩΝ / fish l. Rizzo pl. XIV, 9 (these dies). Gulbenkian 194 (these dies). SNG ANS 1261 (these dies).
Very rare. Struck on a very broad flan and with a light iridescent tone, almost
invisible traces of overstriking and slightly off-centre on obverse,
otherwise good very fine / about extremely fine
