Kings of Macedon, Alexander III (336-323 BC), gold distater, Amphipolis, c. 330-320 BC, helmeted head of Athena right, rev., ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Nike standing left holding stylis and wreath; in left field, kantharos, 17.18g, die axis 8.00 (Price 167; Troxell 531), about extremely fine. Provenance: J. Desneux collection and Hess-Leu 49, 27 March 1971, lot 128.
