★ The first Ottoman ashrafi, struck after the conquest of Cairo ★

ISLAMIC, Ottoman Empire. Salim I Yavuz ('the Grim'), AH 918-926 / AD 1512-1520. Ashrafi (Gold, 19 mm, 3.38 g, 6 h), Misr, AH 923 = AD 1517. Pere -. Sultan 9202. Very rare. Minor marks and with light areas of weakness, otherwise, good very fine.

From an important collection of late Mamluk and Ottoman gold coins.

The type is the first ashrafi minted by the Ottomans in Egypt after Salim I conquered Cairo.
