Description

LUCANIA. Herakleia. Circa 390-340 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Subaeratus, 22 mm, 6.93 g, 2 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with Skylla hurling a stone; behind to left, X. Rev. Ւ[HPAKΛHIΩN] Herakles strangling the Nemean lion; to left, kantharos. HN Italy 1376. Van Keuren 46. Graffito of X on the obverse and two scratches on the reverse, otherwise, about very fine.

From a Swiss collection, formed before 2005.

This coin is about 1 g underweight, suggesting a contemporary plated imitation.
