★ A wonderful early tetradrachm from Athens ★
ATTICA. Athens. Circa 475-465 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.17 g, 7 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves and palmette. Rev. ΑΘE Owl standing right, head facing; to left, olive sprig and crescent; all within incuse square. Starr Group II.B. Svoronos pl. 8, 18. A perfectly centered and wonderful piece struck on a very broad flan. Some minor metal problems on the obverse and with a small edge crack, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
