Description

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 315-302 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.09 g, 8 h). Nude rider on horse galloping to right, stabbing with spear held in his right hand and holding two other spears and shield with his left; below, ΣA. Rev. TAPAΣ / [Ω / Σ] Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding kantharos in his right hand and trident in his left; to lower right, small dolphin left. Fischer-Bossert Group 73, 886. HN Italy 937. Vlasto 614 and 616. Flan fault (or banker's mark?) on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.
