★ A very rare and particularly fanciful imitation of the Massaliotan lion ★

CELTIC, Southern Gaul. Uncertain tribe. Late 2nd to 1st century BC. Obol (Silver, 12 mm, 0.77 g, 2 h), imitating Massalia. Celticized male head to right, wearing pearl necklace. Rev. Fabulous beast standing left; above, five pellets forming cross. Flesche -. DT -. Gorny & Mosch 261 (2019), 4. SLM -. Very rare. A sharp and lustrous coin with an exceptional reverse. Virtually as struck.

The wild creature on the reverse of this charming little coin is a particularly fanciful interpretation of the Massaliotan lion.
