★ A rare tetradrachm of Alexander III from Babylon ★
KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 17.13 g, 12 h), Babylon, struck under Archon, Dokimos, or Seleukos I, circa 323-317. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, facing radiate head of Helios; below throne, KY. Price 3697. Rare, this issue is much more common for Philip III. Minor deposits and the reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, about extremely fine.
