KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Subaeratus, 28 mm, 15.69 g, 4 h), a contemporary plated imitation, imitating Babylon, circa 324/3. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, Nike flying left, holding wreath; in field to left, star above M; below throne, monogram. Cf. Price 3630 (for prototype). Minor breaks in plating and with some marks, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
