★ A nicely toned Celtic imitation of a Thasos tetradrachm ★

CELTIC, Lower Danube. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st century BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.67 g, 11 h). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. HΡAKΛEOΥΣ - ΣΩTHΡOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club in his right hand and with lion skin draped over his left arm; to inner left, M. Dembski 1505. Lanz 962. OTA Class II. A lovely and nicely toned piece. Struck from the usual somewhat worn obverse die, otherwise, good very fine.
