Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 14.08 g, 9 h), Amphipolis, struck under Polyperchon, circa 318-317. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΦIΛIΠΠOY Nude jockey on horseback to right, holding long palm branch in his right hand and reins with his left; below horse, crescent and Π. Le Rider pl. 46, 4. SNG ANS 674-82. Nicely toned. Three deep test cuts on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.

From the Maggiore Collection, formed in the late 1970s to early 2000s.
