★ A lovely tetradrachm of Philip II from Amphipolis ★

KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 14.31 g, 8 h), Amphipolis, struck by Antipater, Polyperchon, or Kassander, circa 323/2-316/5. Laureate head of Zeus to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΥ Young jockey, holding palm branch and reins, riding horse to right; below horse, monogram of AN and grape. Le Rider pl. 44, 8 ( same dies ). SNG ANS 580 ( same reverse die ). A lovely piece of attractive style. Good very fine.

From an old Swiss collection, formed in the mid 20th century, privately acquired from Dr. H. Nussbaum in Zurich.
