Description

★ From the BCD, Zwager, Jameson and Duruflé Collections ★

ARGOLIS. Argos. Circa 470s/460s-440s/430s BC. Triobol (Silver, 14 mm, 2.95 g, 11 h). Forepart of a wolf at bay to left. Rev. A with pellet below with two small incuse squares above; all within shallow incuse square. BCD Peloponnesos 1024 ( this coin ). Jameson 1254 ( this coin ). Traité 1200, pl. XXXVII, 23. Rare. A beautifully toned example struck in high relief and with an illustrious pedigree. Light edge bump on the obverse , otherwise, extremely fine.

From the BCD Collection, LHS 96, 8-9 May 2006, 1024, privately acquired from Spink's in November 1985, from the collection of H. Zwager, Van Zadelhoff, 14 October 1985, M102, ex Schulman 228, 4 February 1957, 1223 and from the R. Jameson and G. Duruflé Collections.
