Description

★ An extremely rare stater from the Aulerci Cenomani ★

CELTIC, Northwest Gaul. Aulerci Cenomani. 2nd century BC. Stater (Gold, 21 mm, 7.57 g, 10 h), 'personnage pourvu d'une seule aile' type. Celticized laureate head of Apollo to right, the hair in long curls with a strand falling loose before the forehead. Rev. Devolved charioteer, driving cart drawn by a centaur to right, holding reins with his right hand and long branch ending in a vexillum-like banner in his left; below, winged male figure standing right, holding spear. DT 2147. LT -. Extremely rare and among the finest of very few known examples. Flan crack , otherwise, good very fine.
