Description

★ Banti & Simonetti plate coin, ex Frey 1954 ★

Nero, 54-68. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 35 mm, 27.41 g, 7 h), Lugdunum, circa 66. IMP•NERO•CAESAR•AVG•PONT•MAX•TR•POT•P•P Laureate head of Nero to left, with globe at point of bust. Rev. DECVRSIO / S - C Nero riding on horseback to right, holding spear, behind him rides a soldier carrying a vexillum over his shoulder. Banti & Simonetti 894 ( this coin ). BMC 316. Cohen 88. RIC 508. A bold and impressive piece with a lovely brown patina. Minor areas of weakness and with a very thin flan crack , otherwise, very fine.

From an old Swiss collection, formed in the early to mid 20th century, ex Frey 1, 24 September 1954, 713 and from the collection of Frederick A. Walters Esq., F.S.A., of St. Mildred's Temple Ewell, Dover, Hess 211, 9 May 1932, 384.
