★ A beautiful stater from Gela ★

SICILY. Gela. Circa 480/75-475/70 BC. Stater (Silver, 19 mm, 8.74 g, 1 h). Bearded horseman, nude, riding right, brandishing spear held in his upraised right hand. Rev. [C]ΕΛΑΣ Forepart of man-headed bull to right. Jenkins, Gela 72 (O22/R34). SNG ANS 15 ( same dies ). A nicely toned example with a bold man-headed bull. The obverse struck from the usual worn die and slightly off center , otherwise, about extremely fine.
