Description

Macrinus, 217-218. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 3.27 g, 6 h), Rome, summer 217-early 218. IMP C M OPEL SEV MACRINVS AVG Laureate and cuirassed bust of Macrinus with short beard to right. Rev. PONTIF MAX TR P COS P P Jupiter standing front, head to left, holding thunderbolt in his right hand and long scepter with his left. BMC 31 corr. (as 'Antioch'). Clay Issue 2. Cohen -. RIC 15 var. (with long beard). Extremely fine.

An interesting minor detail of this coin is that the scepter of Jupiter is showing a spearhead threequarters of the way down.
