★ An extremely rare didrachm from Bambyce in the name of Alexander 'the Great' ★
SYRIA, Cyrrhestica. Bambyce. Alexander III of Macedon , circa 330-325 BC. Didrachm (Silver, 21 mm, 8.44 g, 5 h). 𐡏𐡕𐡓𐡏𐡕𐡇 ('tr'th in Aramaic) Atargatis seated to right, holding a jar in her right hand; before her, thymiaterion. Rev. 𐡀𐡋𐡊𐡎𐡍𐡃𐡓 ('lksndr in Aramaic) Lion lying to left; below, double circlet. BMC -. Elsen 93 (2007), 143 ( same dies ). Seyrig, Hieropolis, 13. SNG Copenhagen -. Extremely rare. An interesting issue known in just very few examples. Struck from a worn obverse die as usual and slightly double struck , otherwise, good very fine.
