★ A wonderful denarius of Caracalla with a triumphal ★
Caracalla, 198-217. Denarius (Silver, 21 mm, 3.17 g, 12 h), Rome, 206. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG Laureate head of Caracalla to right. Rev. COS II Caracalla, laureate and togate, in slow-moving triumphal quadriga to right, holding reins with his right hand and eagle-tipped scepter in his left. BMC 488. Cohen 38. RIC 87a. Rare. Brilliant, lustrous and clear. A wonderful piece and certainly among the best examples known. Virtually as struck.
