★ An extremely fine tetradrachm of Mithradates VI ★

KINGS OF PONTOS. Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 120-63 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.76 g, 11 h), Pergamon, year 223 of the Bithyno-Pontic era, ninth month = June 74 BC. Diademed head of Mithradates VI to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - MIΘPAΔATOY / EYΠATOPOΣ Stag grazing left; to left, star-in-crescent (Pontic royal badge) above monogram; to right, ΓKΣ above monogram; in exergue, Θ; all within Dionysiac wreath of ivy and fruit. Callataÿ pl. D48/R4a. Beautifully toned and with a splendid portrait. Extremely fine.
