★ An unusually attractive tetradrachm from Skione ★

MACEDON. Skione. Circa 480-470 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 16.81 g, 6 h). Head of Protesilaos to right, wearing crested Attic helmet. Rev. Σ-K-I-O Stern of galley to left; all within incuse square. AMNG III, -. Dewing 1076. Kraay, ACGC 470. SNG ANS -. SNG Delepierre -. Rare. A wonderful example of this usually crude issue, nicely toned and with a particularly individual and impressive head of Protesilaos. Good very fine.
