Description

THRACO-MACEDONIAN REGION. Uncertain. Circa 500-480 BC. 1/16 Stater (Silver, 8 mm, 0.60 g). Crab. Rev. Rough incuse square. SNG ANS -. Tsintsifos, p. 152, 3 (as 'Eion'). Tzamalis 5. Very rare. An unusually well struck and clear example with attractive dark toning. Minor edge splits, otherwise, extremely fine.

From a German collection, assembled since the 1960s.

These small fractions have traditionally been attributed to Kos, but find spots suggest that their origin lies in the Thraco-Macedonian region. This is an unusually fine example.
