ATTALUS I, king 241-197 BC. Tetradrachm. AR 17.01 g. Laureate head of Philetaerus r. Rev. FILETAIROU Athena, wearing chiton, mantle and crested Corinthian helmet, seated l. on stone throne; she crowns the founder's name with her r. hand, holding spear with her l. hand; large round shield at her side; in outer l. field, ivy leaf, in centre, Monogram, r., bow. Westermark, Ph. 62, V.LIX/R2 (these dies). SNG Tübingen 2368 (this obv. die).
Very rare in this quality. Excellent portrait. High relief. Choice uncirculated Provenance: Private Swiss collection. From the many coins of King Attalus I we have seen lately, this is by far the finest of all of them.
