Very rare. Beautiful, vigorous Northern style .
Extremely fine Provenance: Auction Leu Numismatik AG, Zürich 65 (1996), 129. This first issue of Alexander I is by its iconography identical with the tribal issues of the Bisaltai. Macedonia was a member of alliance formed by Thraco-Macedonian tribes and Alexander only began to consolidate Macedonian control over the other tribes after the Persian Wars. Still using the same types, they will now bear the king's name on the rev. (cf. SNG ANS 22).
