Don Luis de Velasco & Vincenzo Gonzales bronze "Capture of Morro Castle" Medal 1763 MS62 Brown NGC, Betts-443, Medina-12, Eimer-704. 49mm. By T.F. Prieto. Engraved by Spanish engraver Tomas Prieto to commemorate the 1762 battle during which the Spanish fort in Havana Cuba, the Morro Castle, was captured by a British fleet of 200 vessels and approximately 14,000 men. The reverse scene, depicting the scene on July 30th, 1762 is especially expressive, as the engraving of the explosion inside the fort's walls actually shows soldiers being thrust into the air. An interesting relic from the French and Indian War (known as the Seven Years' War in broader terms), and particularly noteworthy as it comes from the loser's perspective.
