Augustus (27 BC-AD 14). AR denarius (23mm, 3.50 gm, 6h). NGC Choice AU 5/5 / 2/5, brushed. Uncertain Spanish mint (Colonia Caesaraugusta?). Struck 19-18 BC. Anepigraphic, head of Augustus left, wearing oak wreath / Two laurel trees, CAESAR above, AVGVSTVS below. RIC I 33b. Well struck on a broad flan. Very Rare with left facing bust. The trees featured on this reverse type are a representation of the laurel trees gifted to Octavian by the Senate when they bestowed the title of Augustus upon him. They were planted on either side of the entrance gate to his home on Palatine.
