Charles IV (1322-1328) gold Royal d'Or ND AU53 NGC, Paris mint, Fr-261, Dup-240. +K' OL' (annulet) RЄX (annulet) | • FRA' • COR' •, crowned, mantled figure of Charles standing facing beneath a Gothic dais, cross-tipped scepter in right hand / +XP'C • VInCIT (annulet) XP'C • RЄGИAT (annulet) XP'C (annulet) IMPЄRAT, cross fleury within quadrilobe, crowns in spandrels. Emission from 16 February 1326. Only the second example of this very rare issue that we have offered in the past 12 years, achieving an astonishing AU-grade alongside a mere 3 representatives in the NGC census. A bit soft in the features, but on the whole remarkably well-made for the clearly extensive flaws in both the obverse and reverse dies, not a trace of waviness to the flan or the least sign of clipping. Sold with old collector's envelope. From the Morris Collection
