Japan Bank of Japan 1000 Yen ND (1945) Pick 45a JNDA 11-48 PMG Choice Uncirculated 64. Highest denomination of the series, and very rare in any grade, let alone Choice Uncirculated. At the time of cataloging, there are only two examples graded finer in the PMG Population Report. This type was only in circulation for about 6 months, and because it represented enormous buying power, most were redeemed in 1946. This series was released immediately following Japan's surrender, which finally ended the Pacific Theater of World War II. This coincided with a Japanese economic recession which prevented choice banknotes from being saved for collecting enjoyment. While this example displays light mounting remnants on the back, the overall impression is still outstanding. Beautiful and rare, and missing from many collections.
